When the film The X-Files: I Want to Believe was in production, pictures were “leaked” showing the two principal characters, FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, locked in a passionate embrace. The images sent X-Files fan-sites into meltdown.
The creator of the The X-Files television series, Chris Carter (who directs the movie), has always maintained that the show’s success was based on the relationship between his pair of probing paranormal investigators, played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, sharing “an intellectual romance”. But the pictures suggested the new film saw their relationship become physical. For the fanboys, this was major news. But is it actually true? Read the rest of this entry »
Gillian Anderson showed off her belly last night at the premiere of her new film, âX-Files: I Want To Believe.â
The star, who turns 40 next month, is expecting her third child, and her second with boyfriend Mark Griffiths.
Anderson told âAccess Hollywoodâ that everything was good with her impending arrival, which she confirmed is due in October.
Though sheâs a sci-fi legend for her portrayal of âX-Filesâ investigator Dana Scully, she wonât be introducing the baby to the genre that made her famous anytime soon.
âI think I might wait a few more years,â Anderson laughed. âIt might be a little bit freaky too early on.â Read the rest of this entry »
Finally, almost six years after they wrapped, Gillian Anderson found herself sitting in a room again with David Duchovny and “X-Files” creator Chris Carter.
“It was quite a monumental event,” Anderson says of the first time they gathered to read through the script of the long-awaited second movie, “The X-Files: I Want to Believe.” “On the one hand, it felt incredibly familiar and kind of melancholy and sweet and wistful in some way. And on the other hand it felt strange and awkward and like I was an impostor somehow on this other world.”
It was the world Anderson inhabited for most of her young adult life. She landed the role of FBI Agent Dana Scully on the cult sci-fi series when she was just 24 and spent nearly a decade chasing aliens through the snowdrifts of Vancouver, where it was shot.
Last week, after flying to Los Angeles from London — the city that’s been her home for the past five years — the 39-year old actress grabbed a bite to eat and happened upon “a table full of giggly 20-something girls drinking and talking nonstop.” Read the rest of this entry »
Die hard X-Files fans were rewarded for their patience at the world premiere of new movie The X-Files: I Want To Believe.
The stars arrived extra early to take part in a special Q&A broadcast over giant TV screens and designed so that the crowds could ask the show’s top brass all the questions they’ve had bottled up for the last six years.
First on the fans’ agenda was what was it like for David and Gillian to be back working together, to which David told the crowd: “It felt like no time had passed at all and we just stopped the show last week and we were back doing it again.”
Writer Frank Spotnitz confessed to fans: “I had missed everyone and the characters more than I realised. This whole year has been a revelation to me to see how many people still love Mulder and Skully.”
Gillian gushed to the people that had made special banners, posters and even t-shirts with the characters faces on: “I think it’s really awesome, just the fact that you guys have shown up and that you’re supporting us in this way is fantastic.”
So as not to give any of the plot away, the panel were invited to describe how they saw the movie in one word, to which writer Frank Spotnitz said “gross”.
Director Chris Carter added “sweet” and, after much thought, Gillian came up with “hot”. Pointing at the fans, David promised the film was “loyal”.
Actress Gillian Anderson, best known for her nine-year stint playing FBI Agent Dana Scully on “The X-Files,” will reprise her Emmy-winning role this summer in a movie sequel based on the wildly popular science fiction television series.
The re-awakening of the “X-Files” franchise, which enjoys a cult-like following, marks somewhat of an about-face for Anderson, 39, who said she has been spending the six years since the show’s end “trying to do everything but Scully.”
To that end, Anderson moved from Hollywood to London, where she has appeared in two stage productions and is preparing for a third. She has also enjoyed an award-winning turn in a 2005 television adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “Bleak House,” and appeared in the 2006 Oscar-winning film “The Last King of Scotland” with Forest Whitaker.
In a recent interview with Reuters, Anderson discussed coming back to the role of Agent Scully, her fears of failing on stage, and what it’s like to be part of a series that became a cultural phenomenon.
Q: What was it like to come back to Dana Scully again?
A: I thought that it was going to be a breeze, and it was more challenging than I had expected. It had been such a long time and the characters had matured, and also I had been spending so much time away trying to do everything but Scully.
Q: Why try to do ‘everything but Scully?’
A: Nine years is a long time when you are doing something every single day and I didn’t get into this business to play Scully. My goal was to do as wide a range of things as possible. So it was just following through with what my original intention was, but it was delayed for a decade. Read the rest of this entry »
